Water Safety Programmes - CNSST Foundation

Our Water Safety training aims to increase awareness of water safety in the Asian community via a variety of channels and organised activities. The programme aims at helping reduce the rate of drowning in New Zealand and to lower the hospitalisation, in particular, of Asian migrants from water-related accidents.  This is achieved through teaching water safety skills and related knowledge.

Aspects of the programme include

  • Awareness campaign: Delivering the message via radio, local TC, newspapers, community newsletters and events. (Click on the links below for a sample of water safety materials in English, Chinese and Korean)
  • Annual community water safety-related survey
  • Training courses:
    • Boating safety courses (Day Skipper, VHF Marine Radio, Boat master)
    • The Youth Programme’s  ‘Day Skipper Experience’
    • ‘Learn to Swim’ course
  • Fishing safety workshops

A community life jacket hire service is also available.  Please call (09) 570 1188 for more information.
